What's The Bikery all about?

At the Bikery we believe bikes are a necessary, creative, and self-reliant part of movement building as we work towards social and environmental justice in our communities. We are honored to be working together with youth interns and volunteers from local high schools, developing skills in bike mechanics, environmental stewardship, and experience participating in a collectively-run business!

Wanna host a bike drive?? Volunteer Opportunities!

Hi! We are Cycles of Change, a 12 year old bike education organization in the East Bay. We work with low-income adults and youth, teaching bike safety and mechanics. We also do earn-a-bike programs for middle and high school youth, and give away bikes to adults who qualify through our Bike Go Round program. Please check us out at www.cyclesofchange.org.

We are always in need of used bikes to help our programs thrive, and we are looking for volunteers to host a bike drive in their neighborhood this coming holiday season. We will be beginning these bike drives in November, and can use all the help we can get!

If you are connected to an organization or neighborhood, we would be so grateful to partner with you. We provide flyers with information for your neighborhood/organization, and come in with a truck to pick up the bikes on the date we set together.

Thank you in advance, we look forward to hearing from you!

Intern Events Update! We're at the Malcolm X Jazz Festival!

Oakland Bike Contest @ Malcolm X Jazz festival

We're so glad we can be part of this year's fun and fantastic event. Continuing from last year, the Bikery will have a bike station run by intern Kashif Asaad where there will be different bike activities and a contest at the Malcolm X Jazz Festival. The contests are for the youth and residents of Oakland that like to bike or do tricks on their bikes, and are down to show off the tricks they know!

There are lots to do, like bike arts and crafts, stuff for sale, and of course the contests, which include fixed gear contests, best tricks, donks/scraper bikes contests, most creative, skateboarding, and more! We’ll also have a game of bike polo! We will be located at the tennis courts at San Antonio Park from 1-5pm, Saturday, May 21st! Come win prizes and have fun!

Intern Events Update!

F*ck the Gang Injunctions Alley Cat

Our veteran intern, Nick is hosting an alleycat race! The city is debating whether or not there should be a gang injunction right in our community! Many people of color (and bikers) have been harassed by the police and we feel that passing these laws would give them even more power to do so.

Think you know the quickest routes in the Town? Think you know the issues going on in our communities? Come and show off your skills on Sunday, May 15th at Frank Ogawa Plaza! Sign up begins at 11:30 am and get ready to race and win prizes at noon! Admission is $7 and all proceeds go to the Stop the Gang Injunctions Coalition.

More info here and here!

Come and have fun!
